Le Couvent de Barbentane: A Heritage Restored, A Legacy Reimagined
Nestled in the heart of Provence, at the foot of the Montagnette hills and near the iconic Abbaye Saint-Michel de Frigolet and Avignon, Le Couvent de Barbentane stands as a remarkable testimony to time, transformation, and timeless charm.
Originally a convent until 1791, the property lived many lives, as a confessional school, a fruit and vegetable warehouse, and even a furniture store, before falling into near ruin after years of neglect. Abandoned since 2012, it was lovingly acquired in 2021 by heritage enthusiasts determined to awaken this sleeping beauty.
After nearly four years of meticulous restoration, carried out under the guidance of the Architectes des Bâtiments de France and supported by the Fondation du Patrimoine, the Couvent has been thoughtfully revived. Every detail reflects a deep respect for architectural heritage, sustainability, and the region’s cultural identity.
Today, Le Couvent de Barbentane offers guests a place to reconnect through rest, cultural exploration, nature, or gastronomy. Perfectly located between Avignon, the Alpilles Natural Park, Arles, and Uzès, this unique retreat invites you to experience Provence with authenticity and purpose.
More than a luxury B&B, it’s a living monument to responsible tourism and preserving our shared heritage.
A testimony of our mission
Le Couvent de Barbentane has been lovingly restored to honour its rich history while embracing the future of responsible tourism. The restoration balanced the preservation of original architectural features with the thoughtful integration of contemporary design. Guided by a deep respect for the environment, the project made use of reclaimed materials, renewable energy, and low-impact solutions.
Today, the Couvent stands as a shining example of how heritage and sustainability can come together to create a meaningful, conscious experience in the heart of Provence.
